In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another (1 John 4:9–11).

God’s love is like a vast ocean—deep, boundless, and always present. Just as the ocean supports life along its shores, God’s love nourishes our souls, no matter who we are or what we have done. It is a steady force that shapes our lives, like the tides shape the coast. Even in tough times or moments of doubt, God’s love surrounds us, just like the waves wash over the sand. God’s love shows itself in three important ways: it is unchanging, unconditional, and unmeasurable. His love is unchanging and lasts forever with steady and unwavering affection. It is unconditional, remaining strong no matter what we do. Christ’s sacrifice for the world’s sins is a clear example of God’s great love. Jonah’s hesitation to preach to Nineveh illustrates this mercy. People often see others as undeserving of such love, but God’s love is unmeasurable; we may never fully understand how deep His love is, even for those we find hard to accept (1 John 33:1-3).

His love is there to cleanse and renew us, encouraging us to extend the same grace and compassion to others. This loving nature flows from His spirit, urging those filled with it to reflect true love. Jesus teaches in Matthew 5:48, “Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect,” emphasising our relationship with others and revealing God’s nature (Matthew 5:42–47). Our love should extend to neighbors, familiar faces, strangers, and those of different backgrounds, showcasing that we are indeed children of God. It is our nature to support others, help them feel a sense of belonging, and assist them in times of need.

As this loving nature flourishes within us, we develop a profound empathy for humanity, paving the way for healing and miraculous transformations in their lives. We are called to be compassionate, forgiving, and loving; our love should remain steadfast despite the hurts or differences from others. Through this unconditional love, we can inspire change in those around us.

Prayer/Confession

Dear Lord, thank you for your love for the world and for me. Thank you for giving me your spirit, which reflects your love. I understand now that my nature is to love like you do. Help me to love all the time, especially those who offend me, those who dislike me, and those who are far away.
