1 Samuel 3:1-11

Authentic learning demands submission. To undergo effective training, one must resolutely yield to the instructor, following their guidance with unwavering dedication and sincerity. Submission is not a sign of weakness but a powerful expression of humility and obedience—critical qualities for achieving personal growth. By embracing guidance and instruction, we harness the wisdom of those who lead us.

The story of Samuel serves as a compelling example of this principle in action. Under the mentorship of the Prophet Eli, Samuel demonstrated exceptional obedience. When called by God, he sought direction from Eli without hesitation. Even when Eli initially denied calling him, Samuel did not waver or dismiss the encounter. Instead, he responded three times with steadfast eagerness. Only when Eli recognized that God was calling Samuel did he provide the necessary instructions. Samuel obeyed without delay, and as a result, he received divine revelation that launched him on his path to greatness.

This narrative imparts a crucial lesson: To be properly trained and equipped for life, we must submit to those whom God has strategically placed in our lives—parents, elders, teachers, and spiritual leaders. By honoring their wisdom and guidance, we position ourselves to grow into the divine purpose God has designed for us. As Paul urged Timothy in 2 Timothy 2:15, we must study diligently to present ourselves approved.

Prayer/Confession

Lord, instill in me a heart of humility and unwavering obedience. Equip me to submit to the guidance of those You have placed in my life so that I may grow in wisdom and reach my true purpose. Amen.
