Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature? (Colossians 1:15)
Though unseen, God’s image ignites our imagination about His true nature. Importantly, Jesus Christ fully embodies this image, bringing God closer to us than ever before. In John 14:9, Jesus powerfully states, “… Have I been so long with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? He that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father?”
Jesus is proclaimed as the firstborn of every creature, a truth that carries profound significance. While some might misunderstand this to mean that Jesus was the first to be created, this interpretation is lacking. Jesus became the firstborn of all creation through His unique birth by the Holy Spirit, marking a divine creation process that had never occurred before. This establishes Jesus as superior to all of creation, affirming His position as the firstborn of all creation.
Jesus established a vibrant family on earth. Those who possess his life are rightfully part of this family, as affirmed by Ephesians 3:15, which declares that the family in heaven and earth is named after Jesus. This means our identity as members of this elite family is grounded in Jesus Christ Himself. And we are called the firstborn of every creation.
We boldly affirm the privilege of belonging to this extraordinary family! Our inclusion is not merely based on belief; it is because we genuinely possess the qualities that define this family. We are destined to live an extraordinary life characterized by eternal existence, embodying the essence of peace, joy, love, and all the riches of God’s Spirit. As we journey forward, we confidently declare that what we do reflects God’s purpose and that everything He accomplishes is for our good. The path ahead is filled with purpose and abundant blessing!
Prayer/Confession
Thank you, Father, for welcoming me into your family. I am honored to be the firstborn of all creation. Help me to reflect your characteristics on earth as they are in heaven.
