Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; (Hebrews 1:3)

Jesus Christ is undeniably the brightness of God’s glory and the express image of God, as the scripture clearly states. Three significant characteristics define God: his dominion power, his wisdom and knowledge, and his life, which resides in his spirit.

Many people reference Genesis 1:26 to argue that man was made in the image of God. However, while the Bible states that God said, “Let us make man in our image according to our likeness,” it’s crucial to recognize that man was not created in God’s express image. Instead, man was endowed with the first characteristic—dominion. When humanity chose to partake of the Tree of Knowledge of good and evil, they embraced a characteristic inherent to God’s being. In doing so, their minds and hearts turned away from God and fixated on themselves. Consequently, God expelled them from Eden to protect them from the Tree of Life. (Genesis 3:22-23)

Adam, in turn, produced descendants who lacked love and regard for God’s will; their hearts and desires were entirely self-focused.  However, God had a plan to create a new generation that would reflect His very image and embody His characteristics.

This is the purpose of Jesus’ coming. The essence of Jesus Christ encapsulated the fullness of God’s entity: dominion, wisdom and knowledge, and the life of God, which is the Holy Spirit. It is vital to understand that this life of Christ has never been granted to any other living being. Through Jesus, a breed reflecting God’s image and possessing the life of Christ was established. Anyone who possesses the Spirit of God is, therefore, the glory of God and the express image of God.

There is no distinction between you and God; you are the very presence of God on Earth. Jesus Christ came to forge a new creation that embodies the glory of God and His express image. Those born in Christ are extraordinary beings on this earth, belonging exclusively to the kingdom of God. A child of God reflects the image of God and is called to demonstrate God’s glory to the world.

Prayer/Confession

I express gratitude for being created in the likeness and glory of  God. I find joy in the opportunity to reflect this glory in the world. I seek guidance to effectively manifest this glory so that my true identity can be recognized by others.
